WACO -- A childhood friend visited Ramonce Taylor at the Longhorns' team hotel Friday night and ... Taylor scores four TDs in f

That was a tall order, but Taylor made good on the wish Saturday in Texas' 62-0 rout of Baylor. Taylor scored a career-high four touchdowns (three rushing and one receiving) and was an integral part of a 1-2 running punch along with freshman Jamaal Charles, who added 72 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.

"It was great to come back and have a lot of people supporting me," said Taylor, who practiced primarily at running back this week. "I remember the last time I was in Waco, I had a bad game in high school, so I wanted to play well."

Taylor added three receptions for 43 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown reception. That play got him into a little trouble with Texas Coach Mack Brown after Taylor unnecessarily dived into the end zone, drawing a 15-yard penalty for excessive celebration. Brown ordered Taylor to apologize to his teammates on the sideline.

Taylor also accounted for 148 yards of offense while averaging 8.2 yards per touch. UT offensive coordinator Greg Davis said the plan was to have Taylor and Charles split the workload at running back, and run freshman Henry Melton in short-yardage situations. Junior Selvin Young is still not healthy after re-aggravating an ankle injury.

Taylor made the most of his opportunity and showed an ability to carry the rushing load if Charles -- who said he was 90 percent healthy for Saturday's game -- has a setback with an ankle injury that's bothered him the past month.

"It was beautiful to see Ramonce running like that in front of his folks," Charles said. "I thought it was good for him to get a chance to do his thing."
