The Prime Minister of India Monmohan Singh had underscored the need of the SAARC in a practical and pragmatic proposition towards making the whole of the region as the single economic powerhouse. Mr. Singh himself being one of the noted economists could easily understand that without gross economic development of the region it would be impossible to eliminate the curse of poverty from south Asia.
One could discern how ASEAN countries consolidated their base for economic development likewise the European Union countries have been remarkably doing a lot towards its financial well-beings.
Almost in all SAARC conferences all the nations of the region are in conformity to consolidate their perfect friendly relations to promote mutual benefit in respect of trade and commerce facilities and maintain easy communications between the nationals of the SAARC countries. There should be people - to - people contact without any communal prejudice or religious intolerance within the SAARC region.
This requires the abolition of visa system from among the entire SAARC nations doing away all misgivings. Because there are necessary harassment of the travelers in the making of visa process. Unless the people's commitment to unity towards achieving common goals, governments of the nations concerned cannot do anything good alone. The sentiment of the people of all the regions must require to be mould to that extent that they can easily understand that every economic benefit is accrued to their common interests within the SAARC region without infringing their rights to property or individual interests, so that they can presume what is permanent is interest. There must remain mutual respect for one's territorial integrity and sovereignty on equal footing no matter which country is big or which country is small. Before going on in any clash of interests the parties concerned must sit together to settle the bilateral issues on absolute friendly atmosphere without tilting to any sort of conflict. Of course there may occur some sort of friendly sacrifice by the magnanimous ones. Thus they can achieve no-war pact like cordiality as feeling themselves the people of absolutely a single friendly region with no prejudice. The vision of the present time's European Union is a glaring example for us towards solidifying our economic conditions on equal terms within SAARC countries.
The history of this sub-continent is smeared with blood of its own people due to folly of misunderstanding and misgiving before and after the independence from the yoke of the alien rule. As a matter of fact the fate of these nations had never been changed economically since alien rulers were expelled as was expected after their independence. Because distrusts between the nations have already been incidentally deep-rooted for some untoward but ominous happenings. These distrusts or hostilities if any must be dispelled.
Now almost all nations have been realising that economic emancipation is the key issue of social and political independence. Each hungry mouth needs food. And unadulterated foodstuff replenish the body towards sound health. So the power of earning and spending money makes most healthy life. Money is a sort of security of life also. That is why SAARC nations wanted to build an economic power house in the whole of their region where poverty will be eliminated for good through economic activities. There should be common currency as it is with EURO, in SAARC. This, however, needs joint co-operation with utmost sincerity.
It is really very painful when we see unforeseen hostility prevails between our SAARC nations. All the parties must put confidence in their mutual relations and bond of friendship by doing away an iota of hostile attitude. Though our neighbourly but friendly and cordial relation exist with India yet we shudder with horror when we come to know that personnel of the border security force of India trespassing Bangladesh border abduct, torture or kill our innocent farmers or villagers like games without any provocation and become immune by doing such heinous offence of cold-blooded murders.
SAARC countries like Pakistan and India possess nuclear weapons of mass destruction in spite of being armed conventionally with modern but sophisticated weaponry though millions of people of these countries are sadly poverty-stricken. They are testing most costly powerful ballistic missiles one after another to show their vaunt prowess with futile impact. But with whom would they do war keeping the millions unfed? Moreover they purchase weapons from the foreign countries at the cost of their people's hard earned foreign currencies or they take loans or aids from the foreigners to purchase weapons in the name of national defence, sometimes, on uneven conditions at the stake of their sovereignty also! They could easily spend such huge amount of money without any stake for eradication of poverty of their people by extirpating the roots of distrusts from the core of their neighbours. Let SAARC boost that confidence that there should not be any more arm-race among themselves rather they engage themselves in economic activities by freeing the shackles of their people to do good work hand and glove towards making prosperous future on the built-up economic powerhouse.
Of course, in order to achieve this important goal all parties in the SAARC must come to terms in an absolute political will in all spheres of social and economic sectors. With broadness of mind togetherness of scientific and technological aspects of all sorts the member countries must endeavor and come forward to create conditions for the betterment of all irrespective of each other's strength or weakness. The symphony will utter only love and respect for each other.
The big country like resourceful India can show the sense of sacrifice from its Upanishodian broad heart to lead the charity at home such as great Gandhi, Mother Teresha and Rabindranath Tagore who preached peace for all by heart and soul. India should come forward to unfetter trade imbalance giving opportunity to free market economy for smaller neighbours, removing all ground obstacles towards free flow of regional water resources for the benefit of all concerned.
We are very much hopeful that the Indian leadership that has already conceived the matters of mutual interests in the truest sense of the terms. Regional stability and acute co-operation will usher in great prosperity to the teeming people of all countries around her (India).
